Services

Technical editing, report review, and support services for environmental consultants.

My services include not only checking for the obvious (grammar errors, unit inconsistencies, etc.), but also the more complex: are the conclusions supported by the data? Is it clear that you are referencing someone else’s opinion? Is there a gap in reasoning that someone might question? Since not every project needs the same level of scrutiny, all services are customizable to your needs.

Technical Editing and Report Review

My editing services are twofold. On the one hand, I can review your report/document with a detailed eye for grammar, format, and common editing errors. Services include:

  • Word document and Excel table formatting
  • Checking in-text references and citations
  • Checking table and figure references
  • Fixing units and equations
  • First usage
  • Grammar edits

Secondly, I can review your report/document from the perspective of an intelligent third-party reader. In this capacity, I read the report to catch errors or leaps in the thought process so that a reasonably intelligent person can clearly follow the chain-of-thought and the methods used to obtain the results.

  • ensure that conclusions are supported by the data presented
  • improve readability where needed
  • flag areas where further clarification may be needed for the reader

Quality Control Support

I have an eye for detail and can methodically check data to ensure consistency among text, tables, figures, and laboratory results.

  • Check lab data against text, figures, and tables
  • Review supporting documentation, such as boring logs, well construction diagrams, and graphs

Additional Support Services

Other support services include the following:

  • Summarize site history data
  • DTSC Envirostor and Geotracker uploads
  • Assistance with marketing materials (e.g., SOQs, resumes)
  • Data entry
  • Excel table creation and formatting
  • Fact checking
  • Property research

I’m very happy with Shannon’s technical editing services. She is very thorough in her review and always completes her work within allocated budget and schedule. Although my reports are highly technical environmental documents, Shannon has found ways to help me convey highly technical information (and jargon) into readable reports. I’m always impressed by Shannon’s dedication to thoroughly reviewing my reports and making sure all references and citations are correct; quotes and figures are properly referenced; and names and links are current and updated.
